In continuation of my secret despatch of

there has been some difficulty in ascertaining the

real facts behind the screen of propaganda that

issues from both parties, there are growing

indications that the anti-Government forces are

making headway and it seems as if China is about to

enter on another phase of complete chaos.

avoiding a disastrous defeat, events seem likely to
